I am not, and I never was shocked by the stories of Iraqi abuse.

I can't really understand why others are that shocked.
Nations at war commit all kinds of atrocities that go unnoticed.

In today's news, the New Yorker is reporting that Donald Rumsfeld "authorized the expansion of a secret program that encouraged physical coercion and sexual humiliation of Iraqi prisoners to obtain intelligence about the growing insurgency in Iraq" (read more here: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040516/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/us_prison_abuse_rumsfeld&cid=542&ncid=716 ).

The Defense Department still claims that "prisoners always are treated under guidelines of the Geneva Conventions", despite that groups like the International Red Cross reported abuses a few months before this whole thing broke in the news.

What do we expect?
