Feeling Safe Yet???-- The Iraqi Prison Abuse Scandal
Anyone really surprised by this?
I must say that although I was supremely disgusted by the photos that I saw, I wasn't shocked by them--- not even by the fact that two women were involved.
What bothers me most about this is that there are people out there who think that this disgraceful behavior is somehow justified, especially in response to the murders and mutilations of the 4 American contractors in Fallujah.
When this war began, I truly believed that much of the brand of jingoistic patriotism that was being displayed stemmed from the fact that many Americans believed, deep down in their apple pie souls, that WE (Americans, Christians) were better than THEM (Iraqis, Muslims).
And now, our big red, white and blue asses are showing in the form of torture and humiliation.
Surprised?
Hardly.
What pisses me off is that because of these photos coming to light and the cavalier attitudes of both the Talking Monkey and his senile cohort, we now have a big, ole target painted on us.
When Rumsfeld, that doddering fool, said that "The worst is yet to come" (http://straitstimes.asia1.com.sg/news/story/0,4386,250043,00.html) , I believe him.
Not only in the sense that more evidence of even WORSE abuse ("... new photos show U.S. soldiers severely beating one Iraqi almost to death, the rape of young boys by Iraqi prison guards, a U.S. soldier apparently raping an Iraqi woman and the inappropriate handling of a dead body..." http://www.newsday.com/news/nationworld/ny-narums0508,0,901473.story?coll=ny-nationworld-headlines) will arise , but in the fact that we will face more attacks of 9/11 proportions in response to these actions in these prison camps.
Hell, just today, I saw this http://www.newsday.com/news/nationworld/world/ny-woiraq0512,0,4630319.story?coll=ny-homepage-big-pix .
Thank you, George W. Bush for making this world a less-safe place.
Soooo....
